Elizabeth Smoot Ellington, 89, widow of Edward Hanson Ellington, passed away peacefully Friday, June 29, 2012 at her home.

She was born October 20, 1922 in Nicholas County to the late Samuel & Lucinda Clay Smoot, worked for more than 35 years at Johnson-Mathers HealthCare as the Dietary Supervisor, and was a member of the Carlisle Christian Church, where she attended the Broadcasters Sunday school class and served on the Twilight Council. She was actively involved with many community groups such as the Nicholas County Historical Society, Red Hatters, and the Nicholas County Hospital Auxiliary, as well as both the Moorefield and Nicholas County Homemaker, where she was elected to local and state offices.

She is survived by a son, Edward Hanson "Eddie" Ellington, II, and his wife, Elaine, of London; 2 daughters, Luann Kelly, and her husband, Dennis, and Teresa Jackson, both of Carlisle; a step-son, Ray Ellington, and his wife, Betty, of Harrodsburg; 6 grandchildren, Lucinda (Kevin) Giannasio, Michael Jackson, Gregory Jackson, Hance Ellington, Annie-Beth (Joseph) Gross, and Nicholas Ellington and a great-grandson, Jay Thomas Giannasio.

Also preceding her in death were 2 brothers, Everett & Reese Smoot, and a sister, Irene Bowles.

Services will be 2:00 P.M. Monday, July 2, 2012 at the Carlisle Christian Church by Rev. Steve Smith with burial following in the Carlisle Cemetery.

Visitation will be after 5:00 P.M. Sunday at the church.
