John L. Ecton, 78, husband of Patsy Mattox Ecton for 42 years, passed away on Sunday, February 13, 2011 at the Nicholas County Hospital.

He was born May 5, 1932 in Nicholas County to the late Jesse Ward, Sr. & Louise Wilson Ecton. He served in the U.S. Navy during the Korean War and was a member of American Legion Post 17, where he was former Post Commander. John worked for the Nicholas Co. Road Department for 26 years and was Road Supervisor for 13 years. After retiring, he drove a bus for the Nicholas Co. Schools for another 10 years. He attended Myers Christian Church, serving as a deacon and board member.

Other survivors include 5 daughters, Debby Ecton, Brenda (Pedie) Hardin, Carlisle, Cathy (Bill) Clark, Millersburg, Gay (David) Hunt and Amy (Mike) Bowles, Carlisle, 2 sons, Jeff (Katherine) Lynam, Cummins, Georgia, and Mark Lynam, Fairfield, California, a brother, Paul (Mary) Ecton, Milford, Ohio, a sister, Betty Flora, Frankfort, 13 grandchildren, Jai (Tiffany) Hardin, Trae Clark, Scotty Clark, Gerrick Zornes, Kandice Zornes, Jacob Bowles, Kenzie Bowles, Keylee Bowles, Ricky Lynam, Matthew Lynam, Wesley Lynam, Eric Lynam & Kristen Lynam and 2 great-grandchildren, Weslee Hardin and Damon Zornes.

He was also preceded in death by 2 brothers, J. W. Ecton, Jr. and Ralph Ecton, and his loving dog, Pepper.

Services will be 11:00 A.M. Wednesday at Mathers-Gaunce Funeral Home by Rev. Sam Chanslor and Rev. Don Wagoner. Burial with military honors will follow in the Carlisle Cemetery.

Visitation will be after 5:00 P.M. Tuesday.

Memorial contributions suggested to the Myers Christian Church.
