Katherine Garland Taylor Elder Fisher, 91, died Sunday May 7, 2006 at Johnson-Mathers Nursing Home.

She was born in Middleburg Virginia to the late Margaret Downer of Kirkford Sussex, England and J. Murray Taylor of Virginia.

She attended private schools in Virginia and attended Georgetown College and the University of Kentucky. She was a member of Carlisle Presybertian Church, United Daughters of the Confederacy, member of Delta Omicron, National Honorary Music Society, Nicholas Co. Historical Society and was a Kentucky Colonel.

She was an appointed member of The Advisory Committee of the Kentucky Tourist and Travel Commission by Gov. Bert Combs. Mrs. Fisher served as Managing Editor of the Carlisle Mercury and wrote an award winning column, Kay's Kitchen which was awarded numerous awards for a column written on a single subject by the Kentucky Press Association.

A collection of her columns resulted in the publication of the cookbook entilted "The Best of Kay's Kitchen".

She was twice widowed, her first husband, Captain William B. Elder, Jr. was killed in action in August 1944. Her second husband, Warren R. Fisher, Jr. died in June of 2004. They were married for 54 years.

Survivors include her son, John Tobitt Elder, Henderson, Nevada, a grandson, Christopher Elder, Henderson, Nevada, a graddaughter Katherine Layson Elder Ficke, Las Vegas, Nevada and a sister Mrs. W.F. (Margaret) Gallaway, Richmond, Virginia.

Services will be conducted 2:00 P.M. Friday May 12 in the Carlisle Cemetery.

Arrangements are under the direction of Mathers-Gaunce Funeral Home.
