James Reynolds "J.R." Kenney, 80, husband of the late Carolyn Prather Kenney, passed away Thursday, March 14, 2013 at Baptist Healthcare in Lexington.

He was born September 19, 1932 in Nicholas Co. to the late William Piercy & Lee Mae Gaunce Kenney, was a lifelong farmer, a former employee of Garrett’s Furniture and Gene’s TV and attended Headquarters United Methodist Church.

Surviving him are 3 sons, Terry (Janet) Kenney, Chris Kenney and Scott (Barbie) Kenney, a daughter, Debbie (Jerry) Nichols, a daughter-in-law, Tina Kenney, of all of Nicholas County, 11 grandchildren– Shane Kenney, Duane Kenney, James Kenney, Justin Kenney, J.J. Nichols, Kelsey Bowman, Clayton McGlothin, Travis McGlothin, Karol McGlothin, William Baber and Colin Baber, 8 great-grandchildren– Alyssa Kenney, Paige Kenney, Chandler Kenney, Austin Nichols, Wesley Nichols, Addison McGlothin, Embrie Kenney and Easton Bowman, and a special friend, Gizmo.

He was also preceded in death by a son, Jackie Kenney, a daughter, Jamie Carol Kenney Baber, and 2 brothers, Gene & Lovell Kenney, as well as an infant sister.

Services will be 11:00 A.M. Saturday, March 16, 2013 at Mathers-Gaunce Funeral Home by Rev. James Gaunce with burial following in the Carlisle Cemetery.

Visitation will be after 6:00 P.M. Friday at the funeral home.
