Allen Douglas (Doug) Fryman, 72, husband of Nida Ann Smoot Fryman for 48 years, peacefully passed away on Sunday, January 31, 2016 in his home surrounded by family.

Born in Nicholas County, Kentucky on Dec. 18, 1943 to the late James Riley (Rile) & Lillian Beatrice (Bea) Barbee Fryman, Doug was a loving husband and father, an elder of the Carlisle Christian Church, a farmer, a foreman for Hinkle Contracting, served in the Kentucky Army National Guard and as Nicholas County Clerk for 20 years. Doug was a member of the Farm Bureau and Southern States Boards, was a Kentucky Colonel, and a member of the Nicholas Co. Fish and Game Club, for which he often sang and played his guitar. With a natural born talent for the arts, Doug designed his own cabin retreat. He also was a very hard worker, a skilled hunter and fisherman, and a generous public servant.

In addition to his wife, Doug is survived by 2 daughters, Cynthia C. (Karl) Warner, Richmond, and Jennie L. (Todd) Gardner of Carlisle; 3 grandchildren Hunter Warner, Leah Gardner, and Marcus Gardner; one brother, Tom Fryman; and one sister, Juanita (Larry) Hunt; and many loving nieces and nephews.

Also preceding him in death were 3 brothers, Warren, Pete, and Don Fryman and 4 sisters, Catherine Curtis, Josie Hughes, Anna Mae Whalen, and Mayme Wagoner.

Services will be held 11:00 A.M Thursday, February 4, 2016 at the Carlisle Christian Church by Rev. Steve Smith and Bro. Jim Caswell. Burial with Military Honors will follow in Carlisle Cemetery.

Visitation will be after 4:00 P.M. Wednesday at the church.

Sorry to hear about the passing of our good friend. He was a very special person and we enjoyed many good times at our music jams. Elva D's father, Kash Clark, told us once that he was one of the nicest people he ever worked with. We found that to be very true. We express our deepest sympathy to Nida and the family and our prayers are with them through this time of sorrow.

Condolences from me, Aubrey, Amanda and Rachel. We have so many fond memories of Doug and the Fryman clan. The last time I saw Doug and Nida, they came to say goodbye to Wayne. When Charlotte posted his pic on Facebook, I saw Pete, Wayne, actually all the Fryman men. We will keep you in our prayers!

Nida, Cynthia and Jennie:

Jackie and I are so sorry to hear of the passing of Doug. Doug was a very kind man. Doug always had a smile on his face whenever you went to the Nicholas County Courthouse to take care of business in his office. Doug never met a stranger, for he sure did love to talk.
May God wrap His arms around each of you during this difficult time of sorrow. Doug may be gone, but will never be forgotten.
May Doug rest in Peace.

Nida: I can't tell you that it will get better later but I can tell you that it will become more acceptable. You will face all of the FIRSTS, the first birthday, Christmas, Thanksgiving, etc. You have had this before but never like this. I can only say this from my experience. May God bless you and assist you in this time of need.
