Billy Clark George, 91, of Carlisle, husband of the late Ramona Hollar George, passed away Wednesday, July 8, 2026 at the University of Kentucky Medical Center in Lexington.

Born May 19, 1935 in Nicholas County, he was a U.S. Army veteran, a retired IBM employee, a member of American Legion Post 257 and Headquarters Community Methodist Church. Bill was a true "character" who lived life on this own terms and never knew a stranger.

Surviving are a stepson, Michael (Stephanie) Sowell of Carlisle; a niece, Sara Paige (Dan) Short of Paris; a nephew, Clifford W. (Kim) Shumate, Jr. of Nicholasville; two grandchildren, Chad (Courtney) Ockerman & Samantha Sowell; his great-niece & nephew, Kaylyn Shumate & Bryan Shumate Short; 3 great-granddaughters, Presley Wills and Stevie & Ronnie Lee Ockerman; and 2 great-great-nephews, Bryson Shumate Short & Benjamin George Short.

Also preceding him in death were his parents, Robert Cecil George & Margaret Hunt George Florence; a stepdaughter, Tracy Aileen Sowell; a brother, Paul Douglas George; a sister, Kay (Clifford Wayne) Shumate; a niece and 2 nephews: Billy, Tracy & Doug George; and a great-granddaughter, Sunny Marie Ockerman.

Services will be 1:00 P.M. Monday, July 13th at Mathers-Gaunce Funeral Home by Rev. Steve Smith. Burial with military honors will follow in Saltwell Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 11:00 A.M. until the time of service.
