Robert Wayne Smart, 81, of Lexington, passed away Wednesday, September 16, 2026, at the Lexington-V.A. Medical Center after a long illness.

Born July 8, 1945, in Nicholas County to the late George Burl & Ruby Lee Cooper Smart, he was a 1963 graduate of Carlisle High School, a Kentucky Army National Guard veteran and a member of Bluegrass United Church of Christ. Bob was president of the First National Bank (later Whitaker Bank of Kentucky) in Lexington, Nicholasville, London and Manchester. He also worked for many years as a Finance & Insurance Manager at Lexington Truck Sales and Conrad Chevrolet.

Surviving are 4 daughters: Christi (Ed) Twaddell, Angel (Jamie) Sloan, Sara Smart and Suzie Ratliff; a sister, Linda (Jerry) Linville; a sister-in-law, Rita Smart; a brother-in-law, James Perdue; and 6 grandchildren: Colton Smart, Jesse Lorence, Laila Sloan, Quinn Townsend, and Maggie & Ellie Twaddell.

Also preceding him in death were a sister, Charlotte Purdue; 2 brothers, Richard & Oliver Smart; and his beloved dog, Charlie.

A Celebration of Life Service will be held 11:00 A.M. Sunday, September 20th at Bluegrass United Church of Christ located at 500 Don Anna Drive, Lexington KY 40511 with visitation beginning at 9:00 A.M.

Inurnment with military honors will be at 11:00 A.M. Monday, September 21st in the Carlisle Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, Bob requested contributions be given to the Bluegrass United Church of Christ.
