Joe Oliver Smart, 85, husband of Flora Mae Ellison Smart for 64 years, died Friday, November 23, 2007 at Johnson-Mathers Nursing Home.

He was born March 29, 1922 in Nicholas Co. to the late Stanley & Anna Kathryn Williams Smart, was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II, was a retired employee of the Lexington-Bluegrass Army Depot and was a member of First Baptist Church of Carlisle.

Other survivors include 2 sons, Harvey D. (Marilyn) & Joe Allen (Lynn) Smart, Paris, 3 sisters, Martha (Parker) Springer, Lexington, Mary (Coleman) Wright, Ft. Myers, FL, Eleanore (Phil) Carl, Florida, a grandson, David (Michelle) Smart, Murray, 4 granddaughters, Kimberly Smart, Lexington, Megan (Jeff) Zinner, Taylorsville and Veronica & Rachael Smart, Paris and 2 great-grandchildren Logan & Marina Smart.

He was also preceded in death by 3 brothers, W.C., George & Stanley Smart and a sister Betty Burger.

Services will be 11:00 A.M. Monday at First Baptist Church of Carlisle by Rev. Kevin Thomas and Rev. Adam Schell. Burial with military honors will follow in Carlisle Cemetery.

Visitation will be after 5:00 P.M. Sunday at the church.
