Joseph L. Metcalfe, Sr., 95, husband of the late Flossie Metcalfe, passed away Tuesday, April 21, 2015 at Johnson-Mathers Nursing Home.

Born January 15, 1920 in Larue County, Joe was a son of the late Ott & Emma Catherine Sherrard Metcalfe, was a self-employed carpenter and member of the First Baptist Church of Carlisle, where he was active as a Deacon and member of the Helping Hands Sunday School class.

Surviving are 2 sons: Charles T. "Tom" Metcalfe, and his wife Bonnie, of Carlisle, and Joseph L. Metcalfe, Jr., and his wife Marian, of Louisville; 3 daughters, Mary Katherine Smiddy, and her husband Donnie, of Middleburg, Florida, Betty Ann Caudill, and her husband Dale, of Taylors, South Carolina, and Terri Jean Wrenn, and her husband Oddis, of Christmas, Florida; a sister, Jennie Rigdon, of Birmingham, Alabama; 15 grandchildren, 28 great-grandchildren and 1 great-great grandchild.

Also preceding him in death were 2 sons: Kenneth & Robert Metcalfe; 3 brothers: Bill, Tommy & Howard Metcalfe; and 4 sisters: Polly Russell, Katherine Smith, Laverne Beers & Gracie Springer.

Services will be 10:30 A.M. Friday, April, 24, 2015 at the First Baptist Church of Carlisle by Rev. Micah Spicer and Rev. Kevin Thomas. Burial will follow at 2:00 P.M. in the Louisville Memorial Gardens West.

Visitation will be after 5:00 P.M. Thursday at the church.
