Roy Eugene Gaunce, Jr.,69, husband of Brenda Sue Mitchell Gaunce died Saturday, January 24, 2009.

A Nicholas Co. native, he was born March 22, 1939 to the late Eugene and Nancy Skeen Gaunce.

He was a 1957 graduate of Carlisle High School, a U.S. Air Force veteran and a 1964 graduate of the Kentucky School of Mortuary Science. He had previously worked for funeral homes in Paris, Owingsville, Salt Lick and Mt. Sterling, was the former owner of Owingsville Dry Cleaners and had been a partner in Mathers-Gaunce Funeral Home since 1979. He served as Nicholas Co. Coroner and Deputy Coroner for 27 years.

Other survivors include 2 sons, Roy E. "Reg" Gaunce, III (Natalie), LaGrange, Brent Gaunce (Emily), Carlisle, a daughter, Regina Gaunce Gray, Carlisle, a sister, Deloris Gaunce Howard (Henry T.), Paris, and 6 grandchildren, Christopher Gaunce, Rebecca Gaunce, William Michael Gaunce, Landry Tucker Gaunce Gray, Nicole Moyer and Kelly Moyer.

He was also preceded in death by a sister Anna Lee Lawson Harvey.

Services will be 2:00 P.M. Tuesday, January 27, at the Carlisle Christian Church by Rev. Steve Smith and Rev. James Doughton.

Burial will follow in the Longview Cemetery at Bethel with committal services by Rev. Bob Ray and Rev. James Gaunce.

Visitation will be after 4:00 P.M. Monday at Mathers-Gaunce Funeral Home and after Noon Tuesday at the church.

Memorial contributions suggested to the Carlisle Christian Church Building Fund or the Nicholas County Library.
