Carl C. Steele, Jr., 70, husband of the late Rose Marie Hollingsworth Steele, passed away Friday, April 22, 2022.

A native of Nicholas County born June 8, 1951, he worked for many years training and caring for the horses at Forest Retreat Farm, Tom Gentry Farms and Claiborne Farm. Carl loved his horses and enjoyed watching old westerns.

Surviving are his mother, Geneva Tubbs Steele, of Carlisle; 3 children: Chad Steele (Sarah Jolene Bandy) of Newnan, Georgia, Stephanie Lynn (Oscar) Martinez of Winchester, & Laura Beth Gilleland, of Staunton, Illinois; and 8 grandchildren: Micah Steele, Caleb Steele, Christopher Allen Steele, Julie Marie Steele, Lucas Oscar Martinez, Violet Rose Gilleland, Naura Marie Gilleland & Simba Rajah Hupp.

Also preceding him in death were his father, Carl C. “Babe” Steele, Sr.; his daughter, Carla Marie Steele; and his brother, Gary Allen Steele.

In accordance with his wishes, Carl will be cremated and inurned on his father’s grave in Carlisle Cemetery.
