Obituary
Donald Shankland Markland, Sr., 84, husband of 61 years to Patricia Sexton Markland, passed away Monday, May 8, 2023 at his home.
Born July 5, 1938 in Bath County to the late Conner & Nancy Robinson Markland, he worked for several years at Hinkle Construction, was a retired employee of Jockey International and member of Carlisle Christian Church. Donald loved watching UK Sports, Nascar & the Cincinnati Reds, reading his Lexington Herald-Leader everyday and spending time with his grandchildren & great-grandchildren.
Additional survivors include his 4 children: Donald (Angie) Markland, Jr., Patrick (Stephanie) Markland, Tammy (Ray) Phillips & Regina Purvis; a sister, Marian Hatton (late-Talmage); a sister-in-law, Betty Markland; 6 grandchildren: D. R. (Kayla) Purvis, Whitney (Dakota) Tedder, Jalene Markland, Bryce Markland, Olivia Markland & Devin Phillips; 3 great-grandchildren: Trystan & Nash Tedder and Landon Purvis; and a special friend, Leslie Clark, along with several nieces & nephews.
Also preceding him in death were a granddaughter, Chelsea Markland, and a brother, Thrashley Markland, Sr.
Services will be 1:00 P.M. Saturday, May 13th at Carlisle Christian Church by Rev. Steve Smith with burial to follow in Carlisle Cemetery.
Visitation will be after 5:00 P.M. Friday at the church.
