Dorothy Hughes Marshall, 93, affectionately known as “Miss Dottie” to all who loved her, wife for 65 years to the late Horace F. “Spud” Marshall, passed away Saturday, September 25, 2021 at Richmond Place Woodford Assisted Living in Lexington, Kentucky.
Born April 29, 1928 in Nicholas County, Kentucky to the late Keller & Frances Veach Hughes, she was a life-long member of the Carlisle Christian Church. Along with her church, Miss Dottie loved teaching kindergarten and Sunday School, horses, painting, woodworking and chocolate. However, her true joy was her grandchildren.
Survivors include a son, Bradley Marshall, of Lexington; a daughter, Ann “Sissy” (Steven) Spalding, of Lexington; 4 grandchildren: Caleb (Emily) Judge, of Cincinnati, Ohio, Brooke (Shawn) Northip, of Arlington, Virginia, Joshua (Brittany) Judge, of Asheville, North Carolina, and Bethany (Erik) Garcia, of Blacksburg, Virginia; and 6 great-grandchildren: Fritz Judge, Fern Northip, Lia Northip, Louis Judge, Koda Garcia and Raegan Judge. Also surviving Miss Dottie are her special friends, Ginny & Steve Smith, of Carlisle.
In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by a great-grandson, Logan Judge.
Private graveside services will be 1:00 P.M. Thursday, September 30th at the Carlisle Cemetery by Rev. Steve Smith. The bells of her beloved Carlisle Christian Church will be rung to celebrate Miss Dottie’s life and her passage into eternal peace.
