Elizabeth "Betsy Dan" (Wells) Cleaver

Elizabeth "Betsy" Dan Wells Cleaver, 93, wife of 58 years to the late John W. Cleaver, Sr., passed away Wednesday, December 28, 2016 at Johnson-Mathers Nursing Home.

Born December 12, 1923 in Nicholas County to the late Daniel E. & Elizabeth McClanahan Wells, she was a 1941 graduate of Carlisle High School, a devoted wife, mother and grandmother, and longtime member of the Carlisle Christian Church, where she taught Sunday School and sang in the choir for more than 35 years. Betsy enjoyed community involvement having been active as a 4-H leader, in the Millersburg Garden Club, the Headquarters Homemakers, the Jemima Johnson Chapter of the DAR, the Nicholas County Hospital Auxiliary, the Red Hatters and the Lunch Bunch.

Surviving are 2 sons: Danny M. (Wilma) Cleaver & John W. (Phyllis) Cleaver, Jr., of Carlisle; a daughter, Sandra (Mike) Boone, of Paris; 4 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren: Jason & Jennifer Cleaver and their children, Jason Ethan, Jada Brook & Jenson Avery Cleaver; Chris & Amy Boone and his daughter, Paislee Grace Boone; Amanda & Brandon Francis and their children, Alexis Breauna, Mariah Nicole & Ashawnti Grace Ransom and Braylon DeShane & Bryson Lee Francis; and Jeff & Allie Dale and their children Weston Arnold & Sally Kate Dale; and a special care-giver, Elsie Earlywine.

Also preceding her in death were 4 sisters: Margaret Anderson, Lucille Feeback, Helen Pumphrey and Katherine Wells.

Services will be 11:00 A.M. Monday, January 2, 2017 at Carlisle Christian Church by Rev. Steve Smith with burial to follow in the Carlisle Cemetery.

Visitation will be after 5:00 P.M. Sunday at the church.
