Helen Mae Hughes Evans, 86, wife of the late Meredith Cecil "Mert" Evans, passed away Monday, March 30, 2020.
Born November 30, 1933 in Nicholas County to the late Jessie James "Buddy" Hughes & Ruby Purcell Hughes Stewart, she was a former employee of Jockey International, had owned several businesses in Carlisle and was secretary of a mobile home park in Leesburg, Florida that she ran with Mert. She was a member of the Blue Licks Christian Church.
Surviving are 2 daughters, Debbie Banta and Karen (Ken) Day; 4 grandchildren: Dana (Chris) Bussell, Jason Minton, Cristi (Robin) Jefferson and Julie Minton; 7 great-grandchildren: Cody Livingood, Ryan Minton, McKenzie Lenox, Katie Jefferson, Morgan Bussell, Eli Hogg and Madison Bussell; 2 sisters, Peggy (Billy) Rose and Mary (Bill) Wheaton; and 2 brothers, Jerry (Helen) Stewart and Ronnie (Bess) Stewart.
Also preceding her in death were 2 sisters, Betty Frances Flora and Janette Hughes Ritchie; a brother, Kenneth Clyde Hughes; and a son-in-law, Roger Allen Banta.
Private services will be held 11:00 A.M. Thursday at Mathers-Gaunce Funeral Home with live-streaming available via the funeral home’s Facebook page. Burial will follow in the Carlisle Cemetery.
Honorary casketbearers will be her grandchildren, her nieces & nephews and her care-givers, Nancy Fryman, Luann Kelly and Janice Cox.
