Horace F. "Spud" Marshall, 90, husband of Dottie Hughes Marshall for 65 years, passed away on Friday, December 30, 2016.
Born August 5, 1926 in Nicholas County to the late Earl F. & Bertha Smoot Marshall, he was a 1944 graduate of Carlisle High School, a U.S. Army veteran, a longtime local businessman and retired industrial engineer at the Bluegrass Army Depot. Spud was active in the community having served on the Nicholas County Hospital Board and the Nicholas County Industrial Authority Board, as well as being a member of Doughterty Lodge #65 F. & A.M., American Legion Post 17 and the Oleika Shrine Temple. He was also a dedicated member of the Carlisle Christian Church, where he previously served as an Elder and Secretary of the Board.
Other survivors include a son: Bradley Keller Marshall, of New York City; a daughter: Ann "Sissy" (Steven) Spalding, of Lexington; 4 grandchildren: Michael Caleb (Emily) Judge, of Cincinnati; Joshua Marshall (Brittany) Judge, of Lexington; Elizabeth Brooke (Shawn) Northrip, of Arlington, Virginia; and Bethany Frances (Erik) Garcia, of Blacksburg, Virginia; and 2 great-grandchildren, Fritz Judge and Fern Northrip.
Services will be 11:00 A.M. Tuesday, January 3, 2017 at Carlisle Christian Church by Rev. Steve Smith. Burial with Military Honors will follow in Carlisle Cemetery.
Visitation will be after 5:00 P.M. Monday at the church with Masonic Rites at 7:00 P.M.
