James A. Bishop, Sr., 77, of Cynthiana, husband of Loretta Sims Bishop, passed away Monday, May 23, 2016 at the VA Medical Center in Lexington.
Born November 7, 1938 in Nicholas County to the late Huron & Edna Smith Bishop, Jimmy was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force, a former member of the Secret Service, a former firefighter in El Paso, Texas, and a retired mechanic with Wilson Equipment. He took great joy in watching NASCAR and collecting antique cars.
Also left to cherish his memory are 2 sons: James A. Bishop, Jr., and Kenneth Shane (Penny) Bishop, of Cynthiana; a step-daughter, Linda Dunn (Darrell Whitt), of Versailles; 3 grandchildren: John Nehemiah "John Boy" (Shayla) Dunn, Penny (Johnny) Welch and Joy Dunn; a great-granddaughter, Lauren Welch; and 2 special cousins: Edna Frampton & Gayrene Eddington.
Also preceding Jimmy in death was his beloved dog, Lady.
Services will be 2:00 P.M. Thursday, May 26, 2016 at Mathers-Gaunce Funeral Home by Bro. Jim Caswell. Burial with Military Honors will follow in the Barterville Cemetery.
Visitation will be from Noon Thursday until the time of service.
