James Gaunce Obituary

James Douglas Gaunce, or as he was better known, “Bubby” or “Boss”, went to his heavenly home on November 6, 2022 at the age of 60, surrounded by his loving sisters. His devotion to his family and firm belief in God supported him in his battle with numerous physical ailments, and ultimately gave him peace. James was born on January 7, 1962 in Paris, Kentucky to the late Geneva Ruth Guy Gaunce and Douglas Elden Gaunce.

James leaves behind 4 sisters: Connie (Mike) Wagoner, Bonnie (Jim) Earlywine, Patricia (Lee) Hopkins and Rebecca (Gary Barbee) Gaunce, whom he loved and adored tremendously. He also leaves behind 5 nieces and 1 nephew: Christie Gaunce, Amy Earlywine, Tiffany Tincher, Pamela Fowler, Michael Wagoner and Rebecca Franklin. James loved each and every one of his family members with all of his heart, including all of his great-nieces and great-nephews.

James worked for numerous horse farms throughout his life and retired from the City of Paris after many years of dedicated employment. If you knew James, you knew him for his fun personality, kind heart and ability to talk to just about anyone. To him, everyone was family. James had many loves, but his main loves were his family, hunting, fishing, arrowhead hunting, four wheelers, fast cars, big trucks and model cars. His passing leaves us with hollow hearts, but we take hope and comfort in knowing that James has been reunited with his mother and father. We take comfort in knowing that he has seen the magnificent pearly gates and has been welcomed with open arms by our Lord and Savior saying to him, “Well done my good and faithful servant.”

Services will be 11:00 A.M. Thursday November 10th at Mathers-Gaunce Funeral Home with burial to follow in Barterville Cemetery.

Casket bearers will include Lee Hopkins, Gary Barbee, Jim Earlywine, Michael Wagoner, Chris Lemons and John Franklin.

Honorary bearers include all of his nieces, great-nieces, great-nephews, Mike Wagoner, Robbie Jackson, David Holleran, Dave Davis and Harold Lee Moran.

Visitation will be after 5:00 pm on Wednesday.

“Let not your hearts be troubled. Believe in God; believe also in me. In my Father’s house there are many rooms. If it were not so, would I have told you that I go to prepare a place for you? And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again and will take you to myself, that where I am you may be also. And you know the way to where I am going.” John 14: 1-4
