James Gaylord Howard, 83, husband of 62 years to Joy Livengood Howard, passed away Wednesday, January 22, 2025 at the University of Kentucky Medical Center in Lexington.
Born June 23, 1941 in Nicholas County to the late James T. & Mildred Clarine Livingood Howard, he was a 1960 graduate of Nicholas County High School, worked for several years at the Square D Company, owned & operated Napa Auto Parts in Carlisle during the 70's & 80's, and was a 37-year member of Amity Lodge #40 F.&A.M. in Millersburg. James enjoyed farming, fishing and being on the lake.
Additional survivors include 3 children: James Michael (Shana) Howard of Carlisle, and Tracy Howard & Kelly (Robert) Rogers, both of Paris; 3 brothers: Johnny David (Ruby) Howard, Ricky (late Joyce) Howard & Gary (Sandra) Howard; 3 sisters: Rose (Robert A.) Brady, Mary (Henry) Banks & Patricia (late Tom) Leet; a brother-in-law, Beaty Mitchell; a sister-in-law, Phyllis Howard; 6 grandchildren: Emily (Hunter) Haley, Jesse (Greg) Slayden, Samantha Brooke Rogers, Nicholas (Amber) Rogers, Jacob Wiggins & Daniel Wiggins; 9 great-grandchildren: Easton, Luke, Channing & Grey Haley, Rhodes & Maddox Slayden, and River, Xander & Asher Rogers; several nieces & nephews and a large extended family.
Also preceding him in death were an infant daughter, Holly Jean Howard; a brother, Danny Howard; and a sister, Linda Mitchell.
Services will be 11:00 A.M. Monday, January 27th at Mathers-Gaunce Funeral Home with burial to follow in Carlisle Cemetery.
Visitation will be after 5:00 P.M. Sunday with a Masonic Rites service at 7:00 P.M.
