Jean Lovett Darrell, 94, of Nicholas County, wife of the late Edgar Allen Darrell, passed away Saturday, August 19, 2023 at Cedar Ridge Health Campus in Cynthiana.
Born July 9, 1929 in Jeffersontown, Kentucky to the late Edwin Booth & Charlotte May Blankenbaker Lovett, she was a Director for Farm Bureau, a Soil Conservation Supervisor, a member of the Miranda Homemakers and member of the First Baptist Church of Carlisle for 72 years. Prior to her marriage to Edgar Allen in 1951, Jean worked for Aetna Insurance in Louisville. Together, they dedicated themselves to working on the farm side by side. Jean would pull plants, strip tobacco, cook for the farm hands and undertake any task that needed to be done. She graciously extended help to others in many ways, such as visiting the elderly and driving friends for doctor’s appointments and cancer treatments. Jean’s fighting spirit saw her through battles with both breast and stomach cancer.
Surviving are 2 children, Don Allen Darrell of Cynthiana and Charlene Darrell-Horn & husband Greg Horn of Prestonsburg; her daughter-in-law, Pricy Darrell of Paris; 3 grandchildren: Jonathan Allen Darrell, Alison (Brandon) Murrell & Megan Darrell (Chad Roberts); 3 great-grandchildren: Lincoln Thomas Darrell, Campbell Ann Murrell & Cannon Brooks Murrell; and a special friend, Patty Burke.
Also preceding her in death were a son, David Darrell; a grandson, Jason Thomas Darrell; 2 brothers, Charles & Tom Lovett; and 4 half-sisters: Evelyn Montgomery, Dorothy Hughes, Grace Short & Elizabeth Davis.
Services will be 11:00 A.M. Thursday, August 24th at the First Baptist Church of Carlisle by Rev. David Stancil with burial to follow in Carlisle Cemetery.
Visitation will be after 5:00 P.M. Wednesday at the church.
