Jean Irvin Hutchinson, 88, of Lexington, formerly of Carlisle, loving wife of 63 years to the late David R. Hutchinson, Jr., died September 2, 2017. She is survived by son, David R. Hutchinson III (Linda), Wooster, Ohio; grandson, David R. Hutchinson IV (Kristina), Graham, Washington; great-granddaughters: Samantha Jean & Jessie May, and great-grandson, Tristan, also of Graham, Washington. Also surviving are her sisters, Kay Irvin (R.S.) Wills, Carlisle, Kentucky, and Sue Irvin Patrick, Cincinnati, Ohio. Also preceding her in death were her parents, Howard D. Irvin and Lucile Wilson Irvin, Moorefield, Kentucky, and her brother, William G. Irvin, Georgetown, Kentucky.
Jean graduated from Carlisle High School, earned degrees from Morehead State University and was selected as a Jennings Scholar at Kent State University. She retired after teaching two years in Kentucky at Trimble County schools and twenty eight years in Ohio at Ripley-Union-Lewis-Huntington and Wooster Triway Local schools. Teaching middle school English was her passion. Jean was a no-nonsense teacher that set high standards for her students, stressing hard work to achieve these goals– a true professional in her field. She was a member of the Carlisle United Methodist Church.
A memorial service will be held at the Carlisle Cemetery Chapel at 11:30 A.M. Thursday, September 7, 2017, with Reverend Paul Cropper officiating. There will be no visitation. Contributions are suggested to the Ashland Terrace Retirement Home, 475 South Ashland Avenue, Lexington, Kentucky 40502.
