Jo Ann Hughes Mitchell, 85, of Carlisle, passed away Friday, February 14, 2025 at Georgetown Community Hospital.
Born June 3, 1939 in Nicholas County to the late Adah Lee & Ora Mae Ogden Hughes, she was a 1957 graduate of Fleming County High School, a retired employee of Jockey International, an Honorable Kentucky Colonel and member of Ruddles Mill Methodist Church. Jo Ann enjoyed doing embroidery and spending time with her fur babies. She treasured her church family and the staff of DaVita Kidney Care.
Surviving are 2 sons, James Joseph “Jimmy Joe” (Bobbie) Mitchell of Nicholas County & Jeffrey Allen “Jeff” Mitchell (Bruce Glowacki) of Sacramento, California; 2 sisters, Patsy Cox & Janice Cox of Carlisle; a brother, Ricky Hughes of Ewing; 4 grandchildren: Lenisa (Dave) Lang, Joey Edward Mitchell, Jesse James Mitchell & Brandon Harding; 8 great-grandchildren; 3 great-great grandchildren; several nieces & nephews; and her dear friend, Geneva Steele.
Also preceding her in death were a grandson, Jamie Mitchell; a sister, Bonnie Hughes; a daughter-in-law, Becky Harding; 2 nieces and 2 nephews.
Services will be 11:00 A.M. Friday, February 21st at Mathers-Gaunce Funeral Home by Bro. John Smith with burial to follow in the Sunnyside Cemetery at Mt. Tabor.
Visitation will be after 5:00 P.M. Thursday.
