Juanita Fay Whirles Smith, 70, wife of John Paul Smith, passed away Sunday, October 4, 2020 at her home.
Born December 3, 1949 in Nicholas County to the late James O. & Mary Alline Hughes Whirles, she was a 1967 graduate of Nicholas County High School, a bookkeeper at Crockett & Gaunce Grocery for 33 years and worked in the Nicholas County Elementary School cafeteria for 15 years. Juanita enjoyed watching U.K. sports, especially U.K. Basketball, drinking her coffee, fishing and going to “the boat.” She greatly loved spending time with her family.
Additional survivors include a daughter, Becky (Luke) Myers; 2 grandchildren: Lucas (Cynthia) Myers and Kalop (Allenea) Myers; and 4 grandchildren: Hector Lagunas, Camden Martin, Kole Myers & Sophia Myers.
Also preceding her in death were a brother, Jimmie R. Whirles, and 2 sisters, Liz Jacobs and Evelyn Vallecco.
A Gathering of Family & Friends will be held from 5:00-7:00 P.M. Thursday, October 8, 2020 at Mathers-Gaunce Funeral Home. Following cremation, Juanita will be inurned in the Carlisle Cemetery.
