Kay George Shumate, 87, of Paris, wife of the late Clifford Wayne Shumate, passed away Saturday, May 9, 2026 at Baptist Health-Lexington.
Born August 28, 1938 in Nicholas County, she was a 1956 graduate of Paris High School. Kay married Wayne Shumate on April 13, 1958 and began her journey as a devoted wife, mother and Nana. Her family was the center of her world. Kay was a gracious, genteel lady and a joy to all who knew her.
Surviving are 2 children, Clifford Wayne (Kim) Shumate, Jr. of Nicholasville and Sara Paige Shumate (Dan) Short of Paris; 2 grandchildren, Bryan Shumate Short and Kaylyn Bailey Shumate; 2 great-grandsons, Bryson Shumate Short and Benjamin George Short; and a brother, Billy Clark (late Ramona) George of Carlisle.
Also preceding her in death were her parents, Robert Cecil George & Margaret Hunt George Florence; and a brother, Paul Douglas George.
Graveside services will be held at 2:00 P.M. Friday, May 15th in the Paris Cemetery officiated by Bro. Greg Spivey.
