Matilda Hamilton Obituary

Matilda Caswell Barnes Hamilton, 79, wife of almost 42 years to Douglas Roger Hamilton, passed away Wednesday, February 19, 2025 at the Hospice Care Center at the University of Kentucky Medical Center in Lexington.

Born January 19, 1946 in Powell County to the late George H. & Nancy Jane Hall Barnes, she was a retired employee of Jockey International, worked for many years at Nicholas County Elementary School in food service and as an aide, and attended Carlisle Christian Church. She loved crafting, reading, attending steam engine shows with Doug, and sitting on her porch. Matilda’s greatest joy was being “Granny” to her grandkids and great-grands. 

Additional survivors include 3 sons: Emery Shepherd, Chris Adams (Stephanie Dixon) & Steve (JoAnne) Hamilton; 3 daughters: Delilah Dollar (Charles Conner), Stacey (Bruce) Treash & Stephanie (Roy, Sr.) Hawkins; a brother, Trigger (Emma) Barnes; a sister, Zellie (Dexter) Barnes; several grandchildren; many great-grandchildren; and a daughter-in-law, Theresa Adams. 

Also preceding her in death were a son, Bobby Joe Adams, Jr.; her stepfather, Vernon Goodwin; a brother, Charlie Goodwin; and a sister, Ada Meadows.

Services will be held 11:00 A.M. Tuesday, February 25th at Mathers-Gaunce Funeral Home by Rev. Steve Smith. Burial will follow in Carlisle Cemetery.

Visitation will be after 5:00 P.M. Monday.
