Norma Ritchie Caswell, 90, passed away peacefully Thursday, December 15, 2016.
Born January 6, 1926 in Nicholas County to the late Elmer & Maple Stephenson Ritchie, she was the former co-owner and bookkeeper of Nicholas County Feeder Supply for 32 years, served as a substitute teacher in the Nicholas County School System, volunteered at the Neal Welcome Center and was a member of the Nicholas County Historical Society. Norma devoted many years to her membership at the Carlisle United Methodist Church, where she was active in the United Methodist Women and taught the Friendly Sunday School Class. She loved good food, family, friends and her church. "Nornie", as she was affectionately known by her family, had a keen sense of humor and a wonderful smile that could light up a room.
Also preceding her in death were her husband, Marvin J. "Sport" Caswell, her son, Douglas Kent Caswell, and her daughter, Judy Kaye Smith.
Left to cherish her memory are a son-in-law, Dan W. Smith, of Lexington; 2 grandsons, Jason D. Smith and Jonathan W. & Angie Smith, of Lexington; and a granddaughter, Danielle & Mike Burnham, of Charlotte, North Carolina. She also leaves 4 great-grandchildren, Wyatt M. & Seth H. Burnham and Hunter A. & Taylor K. Smith, all of whom she was very proud, and many close friends, especially her best friends, Kay Shankland, Irene Thornsburg and Esther Myers, who took special care of her and were so dearly loved.
Services will be 11:00 A.M. Tuesday, December 20, 2016 at the Carlisle United Methodist Church by Rev. James Doughton and Revs. Rocky & Denise Wallace. Burial will follow in the Carlisle Cemetery.
Visitation will be after 5:00 P.M. Monday at the church.
