Robert Markham Obituary

Robert Allen Markham, 94, husband of the late Christine Woolbright Markham, passed away Monday, March 4, 2019 at his home.

Born October 13, 1924 in Union County, Kentucky, the youngest of the five children of the late John Thomas & Effie McClellan Markham, he was a 1942 graduate of Union County High School. In 1943 he was inducted into the U.S. Army at Fort William Henry Harrison in Indiana, received his training at Camp Bowie in Texas with the 772nd Artillery Battalion and then went overseas, serving in Wales, England, France, Germany and Austria. He was discharged from service at Fort Knox, Kentucky in 1946. Upon his discharge he entered the University of Kentucky graduating in 1951 from the College of Engineering with a B.S. in Civil Engineering. After graduation, he accepted a position with the U.S. Geological Survey in water resources. In 1952 he began a more than 40 year career with the Hinkle Contracting Corporation in Paris, Kentucky. Bob was a longtime member of the First Baptist Church of Carlisle where he served as a Deacon and attended the Seniors Sunday School class.

Surviving are a son: George M. (Estella) Markham, of Bellville, Texas; a sister, Eva Shelly, of St. Augustine, Florida; 6 grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren, and 4 great-great grandchildren, along with several nieces & nephews.

Also preceding him in death were a son: Robert Moss Markham; a daughter, Vivian Carol Osborne; a brother: Kenneth Everett Markham; and 2 sisters: Eleanor Marx and Charline Farley.

Services will be 11:00 A.M. Thursday, March 7, 2019 at the First Baptist Church of Carlisle by Dr. John Owen with burial following at Evergreen Memory Gardens in Paris, Kentucky.

Visitation will be from 9:00 A.M. Thursday until the time of service.
