Ronald Clay “Jackstown” Smith, 84, passed away Wednesday, September 4, 2024 at the University of Kentucky Medical Center in Lexington.
Born July 6, 1940 in Bourbon County to the late William Warren & Anna Lee Leggett Smith, he was a U.S. Navy veteran and member of Paint Lick Christian Church. After retiring from the Navy, Jackstown worked for many years as a fishing guide in Florida. He was a member of Marston Lodge #49-Ft. McCoy (FL), Hope Lodge #246 (KY) where he was the current Master, Charles Whiteacre Memorial VFW Post 10208 (FL), American Legion-David Rankin Post 257 (KY), Florida Scottish Rite and the Shriners (FL). Ronnie volunteered extensively and did charitable work through his many veteran and lodge affiliations.
Surviving are 2 children: Ron (Teresa) Smith of Puyallup, Washington and Tonya (Nikos) Tzianakaki of Georgetown; 7 grandchildren: Jamie Smith, Jeremy Smith, Justine Smith (Zach) Olson, Kenneth M. Hansen, Anthony P. Dimarco, Nicholas S. Dimarco & Spyro Tzianakakis; and 2 great-grandchildren, Anastasia & Liliana Dimarco.
Also preceding him in death were a son, Oliver Clay Smith, and a brother, Clyde Sharp Smith.
A Masonic Rites Service will be held at 6:00 P.M. Sunday, September 22nd at Mathers-Gaunce Funeral Home with visitation beginning at 4:00 P.M. Inurnment with Military Honors will be at 1:00 P.M. Monday, September 23rd in the Kentucky Veterans Cemetery North in Williamstown.
