Taylor Talbert Mathers, 86, husband of Eula Bicknell Mathers, passed away Thursday, May 24, 2018 at the University of Kentucky Medical Center.
Born February 15, 1932 in Carlisle, Kentucky to the late Marion T. & Lois Talbert Mathers, he was a 1950 graduate of Carlisle High School, a graduate of the Cincinnati School of Mortuary Science, a U.S. Navy veteran of the Korean War and member of the Carlisle Christian Church. As a third generation funeral director with what is now Mathers-Gaunce Funeral Home, Taylor dedicated his life to serving the families of Nicholas County during their time of need as funeral director, ambulance driver and Coroner. He also served on the Boards of Directors of the Deposit Bank of Carlisle and the Carlisle Christian Church. He greatly enjoyed traveling the country as an avid hunter and fisherman.
Additional survivors include his in-laws: Bernice Smith, Junior (Carolyn) Bicknell, Imogene Powell, Francis Guinn, Jim (Pearline) Bicknell, Betty (Patrick) Gooding and Barbara Bicknell, as well as many nieces and nephews.
Also preceding him in death were his step-mother, Elizabeth "Betty" Mathers, and a step-brother, Bobby McFarland.
Services will be 2:00 P.M. Monday, May 28, 2018 at Mathers-Gaunce Funeral Home by Rev. Steve Smith. Burial will follow in the Carlisle Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 11:00 A.M. Monday until the time of service.
