Thrashley Thomas Markland, Sr., 86, husband of Betty Sexton Markland, passed away Saturday, January 1, 2022 at his home in Moorefield.
Born March 27, 1935 in Bath County to the late Conner & Nancy Robinson Markland, he was a U.S. Navy veteran, a lifelong farmer and member of the Moorefield Christian Church. Thrashley worked in construction for several years, as well as at Mallinckrodt Pharmaceuticals for 12 years, was a Farm Bureau Director and member of American Legion Post 17. He showed Tennessee Walking Horses for many years and had been a Kentucky High Point Champion.
Additional survivors include his children, Thrashley (Rhonda) Markland, Jr., and Connie (Jeff) Hinton; a sister, Marian Hatton; a brother, Donald (Patricia) Markland, Sr.; 4 grandchildren: Andrea (Brad) Bussell, Weston Hinton (Quinn Wachter), Holdan Markland and Lance Sandoval; and 3 great-grandchildren, Zoey Jenkins and Presley & Cash Bussell, along with several nieces & nephews.
Also preceding him in death was a granddaughter, Ashton Markland.
Services will be 2:00 P.M. Wednesday, January 5, 2022 at Mathers-Gaunce Funeral Home by Rev. Doug Alexander and Rev. Steve Smith. Burial with military honors will follow in Carlisle Cemetery.
Visitation will be after 5:00 P.M. Tuesday.
